July 5th bike ride

On Friday, July 5th, with the day off, my wife at the office, and the kids away, I loaded up the bike and drove to Princeton for a bike ride. I parked at Princeton University, and rode around Princeton, Skillman, and Kingston.

The few times that I have been out this way, I wondered what it would be like to ride on those hills. The hills were a good workout, and I hit speeds in excess of 35 MPH on a few of them. One in particular was steep and bumpy, and I hit 38 MPH on the downhill. Both exhilarating and frightening. It was damn hot, though, and I stopped for some pizza in Skillman for food, water, and relief from the heat. I rode 17 miles doing a lot of hills. It felt good.

Here is a picture of the D & R Canal that I passed on my ride. Picturesque!

I would normally ride much longer than 17 miles, but the hills were plentiful, so I figured that was worth a good workout. Also, my left knee has been bothering me recently. Since I resumed working out this month, the spot below my left knee (ligament or tendon, not sure) has been aching, and I didn’t want to overdue it.

Did I mention that it was damn hot?
