I think this fits the definition of irony. I had intended/scheduled Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th as vacation days, as I hoped we could take a 4-day weekend trip via train to Boston. The schedule/logistics/cost didn’t quite work, so we cancelled the trip, but I decided in the end to keep the vacation days for myself. Hey, everyone loves a 4-day weekend.
On Monday, I decided to cancel the Thursday vacation day, as I thought I might as well try to catch up on some work. Vacations are nice, but if you feel like you’re behind, how can you relax?
Tuesday, I got the call to pick up my daughter, as she was running a fever. My wife stayed home to take care of her Wednesday. Josh has been complaining of a sore throat for a while now, and not much of an appetite, so we decided that I should stay home today using a sick day, and take them both to the doctor.
So, that original vacation day traveling to Boston in the end turned into a sick day tending a sick child. What do you think? Irony?
Edit: Added two pics of lunch with the munchkins. We were waiting for Lily’s prescription of antibiotics to be filled, so we had lunch at Taco Bell. That’s right, I spared no expense.

Lily likes the soft tacos, but just the ground beef

We had a pretty good Memorial Day weekend, a good start to the weekend. Great sun, great weather. Couldn’t have asked for more. We spent most of the weekend prepping for our super family vacation this week. We bought new additional summer clothes, new sneakers, new sandals, and other supplies.
Starting Tuesday, we’re driving down to southern Delaware to vacation with my wife’s side of the family for an entire week. Hitting the beach, the pool, , BBQ’ing, and all-around relaxing. I’m looking forward to it.

What’s up with the crazy weather this year? It’s hot. It’s cold. It’s beautifu. It’s rainy and cold. This year has been odd. It doesn’t help that the weekends go by so fast these days. We’re trying to enjoy our weekends more, and be less stressed out. Stressed out? Yes, by trying to keep commitments to attend 101 events over 48 hours between Fridays and Mondays.
On Saturday afternoon, my sister and her husband held their annual “Spring Swing” BBQ party at their place. We didn’t actually make it to the softball game, as most of the family took afternoon naps. By the time we made it there, it was close to 6pm. Of course, we made it in time for the food, which is all that mattered to me. By the time we finished cleaning up afterwards and got home, it was after midnight. Always the sign of a good party.
On Sunday afternoon, we were supposed to picnic with friends over at Liberty State Park, but the weather didn’t cooperate. Who wants to sit in the park on a windy day in 50 degree weather? We moved the “picnic” to our friend Reeba’s nearby apartment.
Last note on the weather – Memorial Day weekend is coming up, and the weather is slowly trending to good weather. I hope the weather cooperates. Saturday is the start of my week-long vacation, and I’m really looking forward to it!

First off, thanks to everyone who called, texted, emailed, or FB’d me about my birthday yesterday. It’s nice to be loved. Biggest surprise of all? My friend Paul in Detroit (and I am under the distinct suspicion that “The Hand of Namita” was involved) drove up to Toronto to hang out with me Wednesday night. Four hour drive, boys and girls.
Paul drove straight from work, and met me at the hotel. We hit an Irish pub, chilled out, and ate dinner together. He crashed in my hotel room, and was out the door at 5am to head straight back to work. Normally when I hang out with friends, we pull a long night, and stumble to work. This time around, we had to admit we’re getting older. 11pm, after working all day, we were both ready to get some shut-eye. Especially since we had work the next morning!
I want everyone to know that I’m having a good week, albeit it is a bit cold. Again, what was I thinking to forget my jacket? It was such beautiful weather last Sunday back in NJ, who would be thinking about the cold? Maybe the folks who were travelling to cooler climates that day!
It’ll be nice to see my family again on Friday, and I’m naturally looking forward to seeing them again.
