In 2007, we celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary. This year, I was supposed to be on away on a business trip, but the trip got cancelled, and I was in town. Unfortunately, for the 3rd year in a row, I've missed our actual anniversary, as I've either been away on business, or working late. This year was working late. Such is life. Anyway, since I wasn't flying home on a Friday night, we considered just driving off for a weekend getaway. Weighing our options, we (I mean, my wife) decided we'd go to Cape May.
Truth be told, when growing up, my parents always talked about visiting Cape May, but we never did. A few years ago, Nums and I tried to visit Cape May, but left too late in the day, and hit all sorts of Garden State Parkway beach traffic. We cut the road trip short, and hung out in Long Beach Island. Years later, we still wanted to make the trip to the fabled, mystical Cape May.
Due to the short notice, we couldn't actually get a room at a bed & breakfast inn within Cape May. Actually, there was one room, but they called it the Petite Rose, it was just $94/night, and it was also the boiler / utility room. We looked into bed & breakfast inns in the nearby beach town of Wildwood. Much better selection! We stayed in the pretty awesome Elbert Hubbard suite at The Sea Gypsy.
I got out of the office later than I wanted to Friday night, but we off on the road by 7:45pm. It was a 2:30 hour ride down the Garden State Parkway, about 100 exits, one short stop for a quick dinner at a rest stop KFC, and nearly to the end of the Parkway at Wildwood (exit 4). I'd never been this far down south on the GSP. What I found astounding was that exit 11 on the Parkway was a traffic light! It became a fairly local road as you continued south on the Parkway. I've now officially been to the beginning and the end of the Garden State Parkway. Sounds exciting, eh?

After getting a restful night of sleep, we were off to our included-the-price breakfast at our "bed & breakfast inn." After breakfast, we hit the road for Cape May. We drove around, went to the lighthouse at Cape May Point State Park, and walked the town. In the late afternoon, we hit an Italian-American festival for a late lunch, and we rested back at our suite. In the evening, we had a great dinner at 410 Bank Street in Cape May. Thanks to friends Saji & Jiji for dining here first, and providing a recommendation :)

The getaway weekend went too fast -- it's already Sunday! Our 2nd (and last) day, after breakfast, we hit the unexplored. We checked out, and explored boardwalk in Wildwood. After walking up and down the boardwalk, we drove back to Cape May for an afternoon tea and lite lunch, then reluctantly drove home to pick up Joshua.
