Memorial Day weekend 2004, Doug and I drove down to Philly to meet up with the Detroit crew: Paul, Sean, Robby, Rincy, Sharon, and Paula. All the guys in one room, and the womenfolk get a room all to themselves. Life is not fair.
Walking Around PhiladelphiaAfter arriving at the Crowne Plaza hotel on Market St, we found out that only Paul was around, as everyone else had driven to a Malayalee volleyball tournament in Jersey. Doug, Paul, and I walked around Philly, doing a little sightseeing, then went to lunch at Jim's Steaks. Philly cheesesteaks for everyone! |

Drinks & DancingAfter some BS'ing down by the riverfront, we went back to the hotel to get cleaned up. In the evening, Num, Teena, and Roseann drove down to Philly, and met up with us. We went to dinner at Devon Seafood Grill (good food, pricey as hell), and then hit the Five Spot. Drinking, dancing, and then they shoved us out at 2am (closing). Is NYC the only town where you can party after 2am? Hmm, maybe LA. Rather buzzed, and suffering the case of the munchies, we hit an all-night diner. The three pretty ladies drove home, and the rest of us headed back to the hotel. |

Waking up around 9:30am, nursing a slight hangover, I got into my cycling clothes, prepped the bike, and was out the door around 10:30am. After getting lost twice (and after purchasing a map at a Sunoco on Route 1, and speaking to a police officer, I finally found the Schuylkill River Trail. Very nice, but hard to stay on. I will comment that Philadelphia is the most bike-friendly city I've been in. After 3 hours of being lost, and winding my way down the trail, I made it to Valley Forge National Historic Park. I would have walked around, except I was so tired and achy.
After chit-chatting with Julie on the phone about how upset my parents are with stuff that I write online about them, I made my way back to Philadelphia, albeit leisurely. If I could stop, I did, including stopping at some rinky-dink cafe for hot dogs and soda. By the time I got back to the hotel (51 miles round trip), I just dropped on the bed.
In the evening, we all went to someone's house to watch the Pistons-Paces playoff game, and dinner. We took the Philadelphia subway (pretty crappy, if you ask me.)

Doug and I left in the morning, and beat all the traffic. Great way to cap off an awesome weekend!
