It took 3 months, but we were finally going on our long-awaited honeymoon. Yes, I know. We told everyone we were going to Greece, but then we found out it was going to be really cold. Then we were looking at a Sandals vacation to St. Lucia, but then the flights were too expensive. Through the help of our new travel agent Tom Varghese (excellent, btw), we got a great deal on a cruise through the Western Caribbean on Princess Cruises.
We left on Sunday, Dec 21st, and came back on Dec 28th. So we wouldn't miss our 6am flight, and that we still hadn't done any packing by late Saturday night, we ended up pulling an all-nighter. We made the flight, but we were damn tired. We flew on Northwest from Newark - Detroit - Ft. Lauderdale. I'm not big on connections, but the flights were covered as part of the cruise package, and Princess made all the arrangements for us. At least on the way back, we had a direct Delta flight from Ft. Lauderdale back to Newark.
What was weird was that the cruise didn't book us on seats together. On both flights to Ft. Lauderdale, we sat in different rows. At least on the return trip, we sat next to each other. Num wasn't happy about sitting apart on two flights.

On Monday, we arrived at Princess Cays, the cruise line's private island in the Bahamas. It was a whole day devoted to recreation and relaxation. Naturally, we were so tired, we didn't wake up until 1pm, and almost missed the entire port-of-call. We got ready, ate a quick lunch, and disembarked for the island. We only had 3 hours left, but we made the most of it. The little orange ships are the "tenders" that we usually took to get off or get back on the ship from ports-of-call.

After a full day at sea, we arrived at Grand Cayman on Wednesday. Don't worry, we got a lot of reading done, plus more relaxing at the pool. Also, lots of good shows, and I was making good money at the ship casino.
More oversleeping, and we got to shore by noon. We did a lot of walking around, but the place didn't look too impressive. Just a 3rd-world country. We did more walking around, then it started raining. Hard. To kill time, we hit this restaurant for lunch and drinks. In the meantime, I watched a guy in a Santa suit run down the street somewhere, I don't know where. Still, good food.

During the cruise, the cruise people kept describing Costa Maya (on the Mexican coast) as an "up and coming resort." Yeah, we found out what they meant when we looked out the window at a bunch of huts. Still, it was a nice place, but not exactly a resort. We walked ashore via the gangway, and we went to see the village. We saw a show, and then we took a taxi to the "water park" area to do some jet-skiing. However, the machines weren't working, so we kept waiting on the beach. I finished my book, Num slept, and then we went for lunch. Around 3, we gave up, and headed back to the main harbor area.

It rained a lot, so we went back to the ship. Then we went out again, and took a taxi to the downtown area.
Lunch at some place. BTW, the British woman on the left is staring at her husband taking our picture. Also note the large drink on the table. That's Num's big margarita. She was really sloshed after drinking it. Joel says, "Yes!" to drunk girls! |
