The 2016 Ipe Familly Pinewood Derby Cars Lineup
This year was Josh’s last Pinewood Derby race. Last year, I was interested in participating in the Adults race, and Lily was interested in the Siblings race. Unfortunately, nobody had time for all that. Since this was the last chance for us, we all decided to make Derby cars. Yes, even Nums!
I’ll skip all of the gory details. Suffice it to say, although we had vowed to finish our cars way in advance of the big day, we invariably ended up with finishing the cars on the day of the Derby. It wasn’t for lack of trying, but we had to prioritize karate practices and testing for blue belts, wrapping Josh’s last few Webelos badges and crafting his arrow of light, work stuff, etc. We were painting and gluing car parts late at night. Mid-day Saturday, we were still adjusting cars.
Our four stylish cars:
- Joshua – Hot Rod (Transformers G1)
- Lily – Harry Potter
- Nums – Jay Gatsby’s yellow Rolls Royce (F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby”)
- Me – K.I.T.T (Knight Rider)
Somehow, we did it. We weren’t the fastest by any means, and we didn’t win any trophies, but we liked our cars anyway. They came out really well, and we’ll be displaying them in the home office. As soon as I get that shelf up.
