Joel’s review of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013)

I watched Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues this week. This is the sequel to the first Will Ferrell / Ron Burgundy film. The film brings back the original gang of Will Ferrell (Ron Burgundy), Steve Carell (Brick Tamland), Paul Rudd (Brian Fontana), and David Koechner (Champ Kind), and Christina Applegate (Veronica Corningstone.) Ron and Veronica have left San Diego for New York to become big network news stars. They also have a young son together. As the film begins, Ron gets passed over for the big network new anchor spot, while Veronica wins the coveted spot. This causes a huge marital rift, and Ron loses it. Their relationship (marriage?) disintegrates, and Ron is working at Sea World.

Eventually, he gets invited to become a network news man at the new GNN, a 24-hour cable news network (basically CNN.) I’d go on more, but I thought the film was stupid, and a bit of a waste of time. It’s less of an interesting plot, and more of the writers (and Will Ferrell) milking the life out of each character. The acting and the story became extremely implausible, and the characters unrealistic. It was less about being a cohesive story, and more about stitching together 119 minutes of outtakes. While Christina Applegate was an integral part of the story in the first film, she has very little to do here. They introduced a new romantic interest in GNN’s new producer (Meagan Good), but there was nothing to it.

Didn’t like. Got bored of it. It’s not that funny. Pass.
