Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox came out a few months ago, one of DC’s latest animated films around their Justice League property. It’s based on the comic book story that eventually kicked off the New 52 story line. It may be positioned as a Justice League story, but it’s really all about Barry Allen / the Flash. As a child, Barry’s mother died during a home invasion. During the present day, on the anniversary of his mother’s birth, Barry decides to use the Speed Force to try to go back in time to change it. He wakes up in a very different world. He’s not the Flash. The world is at war, with Atlantis (led by Aquaman) and Themyscira (led by Wonder Woman) at war with each other, decimating the world as a result. Batman is super violent. There is no Superman. It’s all nuts. The film is about Barry Allen trying to put the world back together as he knew it.

The voice cast isn’t bad — C. Thomas Howell, Dee Bradley Baker, Kevin Conroy, Sam Daly, Dana Delany, Grey DeLisle, Cary Elwes, Nathan Fillion, Jennifer Hale, and others. I wasn’t quite enamored with the animation style (especially how they drew Aquaman), or the rather violent animation. I wanted to watch this with the kids, but too much blood and gore, and language, and adult themes, for their young sensibilities. Oh well. There are a lot of famous DC characters, but they are more like glorified cameos.

The blu-ray features 1080p resolution, and DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio, but I wasn’t all that wowed by either.
