Justice League: Doom (2012)

I watched Justice League: Doom (2012) today in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, as there was little else I could do today. This direct-to-video film came out in 2012, and was produced by Warner Bros. Animation, much like the other DCAU films. Bruce Timm didn’t work on this film, but it featured the voices of some famous DCAU actors/actresses, and others from famous sci-fi genre properties:

  • Kevin Conroy – Batman
  • Tim Daly – Superman
  • Susan Eisenberg – Wonder Woman
  • Nathan Fillion – Green Lantern
  • Carl Lumbly – Martian Manhunter
  • Michael Rosenbaum – The Flash
  • Claudia Black – Cheetah
  • Olivia d’Abo – Star Sapphire
  • Alexis Denisof – Mirror Master
  • Phil Morris – Vandal Savage
  • Dee Bradley Baker – minor characters

Were member of the Justice League ever to go rogue, Batman has maintained confidential contingency plans  to take them out. Vandal Savage (Mr. ever-living evil genius) steals these confidential plans, and hires B and C-level villains to carry out these plans. It wasn’t a bad story, as it was based on a 2000 JLA comic book storyline titled JLA: Tower of Babel. The voice acting was very good, and I liked that they brought back many of the 2000-era Justice League / JL Unlimited animated series cast, plus Nathan Fillion (who also voiced Hal Jordan in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights!) However, the film is very short at 80 minutes, and the 3rd act (the climax) felt a bit rushed. It’s worth a rental, though I’m disappointed that Netflix only has the DVD version available. I would so much rather preferred the Blu-ray edition, but that’s just me being snobby. 😉
