The SPB Mobile shell makes for cool phones

I tell you, I like my Blackberry Curve a lot, and the iPhone is certainly cool. but there are so many interesting/exciting/amazing/neat concepts coming down the pipeline.  See the following demo of the SPB Mobile shell running on an HTC Touch Diamond cell phone. How fantastic is this OS?

I am liking the demos of the new WebOS and Palm Pre.

I love the background services on blackberry. I had an Iphone for a few weeks and the Blackberry storm. I realized that I am not a fan of virtual keyboards. The Iphone not having background services for applications is a big negative.

I have a blackberry 8830 on verizon but our company is switching to AT&T so I will most likely get the Bold or maybe the Nokia N97 when it comes out.

If the Palm Pre was released on AT&T, I would get it.

I’m with Anil on the Pre. It looks promising, but not enough for me to leave Tmobile. Hopefully they’ll release this device to other carriers. I’m interested in trying it out. Hopefully this will resusitate a nearly dead Palm. They used to be the shit back in the day, but it seems they just fell off recently.

As for background services on the iphone, I believe the next release or two is supposed to address this. I know it’s a big concern for some, but it isn’t a deal killer for me. What really sold me on the iphone was the store and the products developed for it even by big name companies. Granted the store has its own flaws, it is still light years ahead of the android market.

The biggest deal killer for me is no exchange support out of the box on any device. This was one reason I stopped using my G1. Google must not want to break into the business market that bad.

I’m not a big fan of BB personally, but most of the people that I know use seem pretty content with it. Their OS is pretty fluid and seems very fast as well. What irks me about RIM is their lack of communication with the outside world when it comes to outages. From what I’ve heard, you have to pay them extra on top of what you pay for BES to get that level of notification. I had a Curve for a few months and got rid of it because the data network died twice and no mention on the web that it was down from RIM. I had to find out from blogs/forums that it was down. Aside from Dope Wars, there was nothing else that I really liked all that much. Plus the fact that you can’t install apps to the SD cards really blows! What the hell am I going to do with 64MB?!?! I don’t know if that has changed in their recent release.

Windows… well let’s not go there. MWM 6.5 looks like they wanted to copy the iphone UI and add their own spin to it. It looks like it sucks. And unless they have fixed all the memory leak issues, it’s not going to be a major player in the mobile market any time soon.

The Pre does look very promising. It’s initially GSM, but I read today that there may be a CDMA version in the works, so I suppose the Verizon folks won’t necessarily be left out in the cold.

I suppose the reason I like my Curve so much is that it’s just the nicest phone I’ve ever owned. Plenty of features that every other candybar or flip phone never had. It blows them all away. Are there other great phones on the market? Sure. Is it perfect? No (hello, where is the HTML email?)

But it’s greater than any other phone I’ve ever had. Now that I’ve gone smartphone, I’m never going back.

I’m with you on this one.
